Click It or Ticket 2010 Launches May 24

May 21st, 2010.

The national Click It or Ticket seat belt enforcement campaign starts May 24 and runs through June 6.  Law enforcement officers throughout Cuyahoga County—and around the country—will be out in force over the next two weeks to protect people from crash-related injuries by enforcing seat belt and car seat laws.

Wearing a seat belt is the single most effective means of preventing death and injury in a crash, but only 70% of adult front seat occupants in Cuyahoga County buckle up regularly—that’s well below state and national levels.  We need our community to take the lead in changing that number by always buckling up and making sure everyone in the vehicle is restrained.  Our own Safe Kids/Safe Communities Law Enforcement Task Force will kick off our county’s Click It or Ticket campaign with an event on May 24 at 9:15 p.m. at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame + Museum.

Cuyahoga County Coroner, Dr. Frank P. Miller, III and local law enforcement agencies will gather outside the Rock Hall as they await the lighting of Cleveland’s own special “Bat Signal” on the Rock Hall.  Just as Commissioner Gordon used the signature illumination to remind Gotham of Batman’s presence, the shining Click It or Ticket symbol will serve as a reminder to drivers throughout the county to use seat belts every time they get in the car.  A display of luminaries representing Cuyahoga County lives saved by seat belts, as well as lives that could have been saved, will serve as a powerful illustration of why Click It or Ticket is important for our community.

The Cuyahoga County Click It or Ticket campaign is funded by a grant from the Ohio Department of Public Safety’s Traffic Safety Office.
