Safe Kids/Safe Communities Meeting Dates & Locations – magnets with dates, locations and safety observations will be mailed to you soon.

  • March 7 – Shore Cultural Centre, Euclid
  • May 2 – Ohio State Highway Patrol Brook Park Post
  • July 11- Berea
  • September 12 – Recognition Meeting (Location TBD)
  • November 7 – Westlake Recreation Center

Old Business

  • 17th Annual Holiday Mocktail Party –thank you to everyone that came out to support the Safe Kids/Safe Communities Coalition at the Mocktail Party.
    • BIG Thanks to our Mixers! The event would be nothing without you!
      • Winners include: Crowd Pleaser-Moreland Hills PD; Best Name-Euclid PD; Best Presentation-Berea PD; Best Mock Cocktail-Nationwide; Best Taste and All-around winner-Brooklyn Heights PD
    • After expenses, we raised over $13,000! All money stays in your Safe Kids/Safe Communities Coalition! No money raised goes to salary or overhead.
  • Holiday Safe Driving – Thank you to everyone that posted holiday safe driving messages on their social media.

New Business

  • Our Town and All-Around Books – please contact Jennifer (walker@uhhospitals.org) to get a book
  • Winter Vehicle and Road Safety – please see the attached infographic from coalition partner, State Farm, educating on a Trunk Transformation and Winter Weather Driving Myth Busters.  Share on your social media sites.
  • Safe Communities Super Bowl – please contact Rachel (farinelli@uhhospitals.org) to order materials, including posters, coasters, safe ride codes.
    • Social media posts will be sent out at the end of January
    • Looking for Super Bowl events in the community
  • Mardi Gras – please contact Rachel (farinelli@uhhospitals.org) to order posters
  • Patrick’s Day – please contact Rachel (rachel.farinelli@uhhospitals.org) if you are interested in participating in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade
  • Safe Communities – Driver Education Scholarship Program please contact Jennifer (walker@uhhospitals.org) if you are interested
    • Seeking schools in low income areas where driver’s education numbers are down. We are developing program guidelines and application process.

  • SIDNE – please contact Rachel (farinelli@uhhospitals.org) if you are interested in having the Simulated Impaired Driving Experience come to your school/community event
  • Teen Driving ROADeo – please contact Rachel (farinelli@uhhospitals.org) if you are interested in becoming a host site for this spring’s event (needs to be large outdoor space with enough room for 10 stations – ie. High school parking lot or something similar)
  • CPS Conference – please contact Heidi (dolan@uhhospitals.org) with any questions about the upcoming CPS Conference on Wednesday, March 1 at Crowne Plaza Airport and IX-Center.   • Winter Sports Safety – please contact Mandy (nagle@uhhospitals.org) to order materials, including sledding flyers, sledding posters, colorable stickers and ski/snowboard flyers.
  • Home Safety – please contact Mandy (nagle@uhhospitals.org) to order materials including laundry pod information, home safety checklists, medication safety checklists, etc.
    • As part of laundry pod grant, we must host home safety talks to parents, caregivers, grandparents, etc.
    • Talks will cover medication safety, home safety, laundry pod, CPS, wheeled sports (anything you would like)
  • Furniture tip-overs – please contact Mandy (nagle@uhhospitals.org) to receive infographic and posts.
  • Fire Prevention – please contact Mandy (nagle@uhhospitals.org) to order fire prevention toolkit which includes lesson plans for PreK-2nd grade, handouts, activities, carbon monoxide materials.
    • Play Safe, Be Safe – preschool fire prevention program. If you are interested in getting trained, please let Mandy know
    • If you have an upcoming event and need a smoke alarm/CO detector to raffle off, please let Mandy know. We will work on a program.
  • Carbon Monoxide Prevention – please contact Mandy (nagle@uhhospitals.org) to order materials, including coloring sheet, information sheet and poster.
  • Return to Learn – please contact Mandy (nagle@uhhospitals.org) to learn more on how to implement a Return to Learn program at your school that address how to ease students back into the classroom after a concussion.
  • Safety Calendar – please contact Mandy (nagle@uhhospitals.org) to order CD
    • CD contains lesson plans, press release templates, social media posts, handouts, etc.
    • Topics include home safety, winter sports safety, fire prevention/burn awareness and childproofing
  • Road Safety – please contact Mandy (nagle@uhhospitals.org) to let us know what your community would like to see for Wheeled sports safety.
  • Safe Kids Day – . We are looking to host a Safe Kids Day event in April/May. Please contact Mandy (nagle@uhhospitals.org) if you are interested in joining the working group or if you have an existing event in April/May we could partner withChild Abuse and Neglect Prevention – will look to coalition members to help spread the word during April and throughout the campaign.
  • Safety Squad – please contact Rachel (farinelli@uhhospitals.org) to schedule a school or community show.

Coalition Business

 

  • Via email and mail we will also be sending forms to tell us who is the coalition. We are working on updating our email and mailing lists. Please look for them soon.

Thank you to the Partnership for Healthy North Royalton for hosting the meeting and providing lunch! Thanks to everyone that came out to the meeting!
