Booster Bill Becomes Law

January 7th, 2009.

The Greater Cleveland Safe Kids Coalition is pleased to report that Governor Strickland signed Substitute House Bill 320 yesterday.  The new law will require children between the age of 4 – 7 years of age be restrained in appropriate child safety seat or booster seat.  Studies have shown that booster seats are more effective than seat belts alone in preventing injury and death among small child passengers.

A provision of the bill delays the effective date of the new law by six months, and then requires an additional six month warning period thereafter. During this “warning period,” officers may only issue warnings to violators of the law. Exact dates have yet to be determined by the Ohio Attorney General. We will post them on this website when they are finalized.
