CPS Tech Training
32-hour Child Passenger Safety Technician Certification Course
The Greater Cleveland Safe Kids Coalition offers opportunities for members of the community to become certified child passenger safety technicians. Students of this course will learn the skills necessary to show parents how to properly install their car seats and answer any questions they may have about transporting children. All classes are taught by CPS Technician Instructors at Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital.
The course is four days and includes both in-class and hands-on training. Students will practice installing various models of car seats in different types of vehicles. At the end of the training, students will participate in a car seat check up event.
If you are interested in learning more about certification please contact Tom Vilt at 216-983-1115.

Refresher Courses
Greater Cleveland Safe Kids offers refresher courses to keep technicians up-to-date on the latest in child passenger safety. Attendees can expect to hear about the latest legislative updates in the field of CPS as well as get hands-on experience with the latest models of car seats. Because of the complicated legal code surrounding federal CPS laws and wide array of vehicle and car seat models, it is important to stay up-to-date on the latest issues. Attendance at a refresher course offered by Rainbow fulfills the requirements of technician recertification.

Recertification Process
Safe Kids Worldwide has new requirements for those who need to be recertified as child passenger safety technician. The online test is no longer required. Instead, technicians will need to complete 6 hours of continuing education to become recertified. Each technician will also have to attend one community event (such as a car seat check) and be checked off on five car seat installs by a senior instructor, as was required in the past. To learn more about the process, go to the Safe Kids Website.
