DUI Task Force wins 1st Place in IACP National Law Enforcement Challenge for Third Year in a Row
I am pleased to share with you the wonderful news that the Cuyahoga County Speed, Reckless and Aggressive Driving/DUI Reduction Task Force, led by Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital, has once again placed first in the multi-jurisdictional category of the International Association of Chiefs of Police’s National Law Enforcement Challenge. This marks our third year as the top winner in this category and is a testament to the hard work, cooperative spirit, and unceasing dedication of the 45 Cuyahoga County law enforcement agencies that comprise the Task Force.
The Cuyahoga County SRAD/DUI Task Force has come so far in the eight years since it was formed, when law enforcement agencies throughout the county worked in relative isolation, with little sense of cooperation or shared purpose. We now have a strong, vibrant coalition of law enforcement agencies who readily share ideas and resources, send strong, carefully coordinated messages to the media and the public, and work together to make Cuyahoga County’s roadways safer for all of us. While all of us at the Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital Injury Prevention Center know how incredibly dedicated our Task Force members are, it is wonderful to have the added recognition of a respected professional organization like the IACP.
As the only finalist from Ohio in any category, we are proud to represent our great state and to serve as a model for other task force efforts around the country. We had some stiff competition this year—in fact, we shared first place with an anti-aggressive driving program of the DC, Maryland, and Virginia Police Departments. Having the efforts of Cleveland and the Cuyahoga County Task Force rated on a par with those of departments in such a large metropolitan area with so many resources is truly amazing. Thank you for sharing in our joy and excitement as we celebrate this win.
