OVI Task Force conducts Wolf Pack patrols

8.20.07 - In 2006, nearly 1,300 alcohol-related crashes occurred in Cuyahoga County, resulting in 23 fatalities and countless injuries; to address this issue, the Cuyahoga County DUI Task Force began Operation Wolf Pack this past Friday night in support of the national “Drunk Driving. Over the Limit. Under Arrest.” crackdown.

Miles Road, I-480, SR-43, Broadway, Rockside Road, I-77, Broadview Road, and SR-237 were targeted for this weekend’s Wolf Pack details because of their crash histories:  54 fatal motor vehicle crashes occurred in the targeted areas over the last three years.  The police agencies that worked together cooperatively on the first weekend of this two-week effort have reported these preliminary statistics:

  • 12 OVI arrests
  • 50 restraint citations
  • 31 speed citations
  • 19 Driving Under Suspension arrests
  • 5 felony arrests
  • 111 other citations

Operation Wolf Pack will continue next weekend, focusing on some other high-risk areas:
Friday, August 24

  • Mayfield / I-271 – The briefing will begin at 10:00 pm at the South Euclid sobriety checkpoint at 4130 Mayfield Rd.; five police departments will be working the detail at this location.
  • Euclid Ave. – The briefing will begin at 11:00 pm on E. 185th at Neff; three police departments will be working the detail at this location.

Saturday, August 25

  • Columbia Rd.  – The briefing will begin at 11:00 pm at the Olmsted Falls sobriety checkpoint on Columbia Rd. one mile south of I-480.
  • Lorain / I-90 – The briefing will begin at 10:00 pm on Lorain at W. 150th.

The goal of the “Drunk Driving. Over the Limit. Under Arrest.” crackdown is to mobilize law enforcement agencies in Cuyahoga County in a continuing effort to keep families safe from one of the greatest threats to our community - IMPAIRED DRIVERS.
